The appellation Dürnstein comprises the area surrounding the medieval town of Dürnstein which was mentioned for the first time in 1192. Close by the river Danube starting west of Dürnstein down to Loiben the vineyards are cultivated on well-drained post ice age sediments of sand and gravel. They easily warm up in the morning and create wines of timeless elegance, displaying fruit and spiciness.
