Riesling

At the eastern gate to the Wachau region, in the so called Loibner basin these grapes are grown on river sediments consisting of a majority of gravel. At night, cool air from a side valley, the so called Menthalgraben is streaming down into the Loibner basin. This kind of terroir is resulting in very pure and vigorous wines containing high but ripe acidity.

High above the river Danube on the famous Steiner Pfaffenberg the vines for this wine are growing. The soils are barren and are composed of crystalline primary rock dominated by Gneiss and Mica schist – as made for Riesling. Exclusively treated by hand and organic since 2017 all attributes for a  characterful and fine wine are turning up in the glass: transparent and  highly elegant without any heaviness or richness.

Awfully focused and mineral with lots of stone fruit aromas and a sublime length – since 2017 we work organic here.

This subsection situated in the heart of the famous Loibenberg is known by few only. Sheer exposed natural stone terraces facing southeast together with the old vines are creating elegant and delicate wines with unusual good acidity. This is the reason we keep some residual sugar in this wine. This is underlining the aroma and will supply bottle’s long life. A rarity which is not produced in every vintage.

The Dürnsteiner Kellerberg is the paragon for a top single vineyard in the winegrowing region Wachau. Manual cared vines are grown on south-eastern facing terraces made with natural stone walls. The soil is dominated by Orthogneiss. A long vegetation period caused by cool airstreams during nights is resulting in a late harvest. This microclimatic combination is creating wines combining refinement and power in a matchless kind. Wines commonly are  restrained and alluring, full-bodied and savoury at the same time, but always multi-layered with lot of depth.
