Ried Supperin has been first documented in the year 1493 – named after the Superior, the abbess and matriarch of the former monastery of Poor Clares in Dürnstein. Gently sloped down from the old city wall of Dürnstein in the north to the river Danube in the south and the framing natural stone walls working as a kind of heat reservoir it is one of the most unique single vineyards in the entire Wachau. This position and the special soil which is a mixture of weathered gneiss and fine gravel sediments are shaping a wine of great personality and unique expression. Our vines there are up to 80 years old!
